The symbol is is great in this work I am seeing the sun and the paper-cranes. My guess is the paper crane is the hope, dreams and resolve to recover after a thousand were made. It was also beautiful seeing the chilled looking into the red rising sun. The red sun of Japan is like a symbolism of the citizens hope even after great loses.

It looks like you did this with wash or watercolor and when I first seen it. Then I took the time to read the media and it claimed to be digital photo manipulation. What make that good is it was a photo manipulation that I did not notice until you did read the media. When I think of photo manipulation either it is bad because some people think it is a easy way out and they show no sense of visual elements or it is powerful becomes some people are really good at it. When I look at your work there is a lot of consistency with the visual element, which a lot of photo manipulators lack. The texture was consistent as it looked like a wash all around. The shadow works well with the child. The shadow can show some curve as it raps around the round surface. It is a very powerful peace with the boy looking into the sun. You may want to have some tones, value, or opacity in the big cloud as in trying to not have a big bright white cloud taking up about fourth the space.
