From nowhere he comes,

          with a quiet leap.

A touch of his gentle hands

          will put you to sleep.

And to nowhere he goes

          with a silent weep.

The Soul Collector

"I dream. Sometimes I think it's the only right thing to do." (Haruki Murakami)

A short story about dreams, souls and falling asleep. Free for interpretation. :aww:

Hi. I put together a digital magazine called Surreal Grotesque (www.surrealgrotesque.com). We specialize in bizarre, strange, dark and unusual art. I am seeking writing and artistic pieces for future issues. They can be horror, sci-fi or even dark fantasy but all must have some strange or surreal element. Check out issue one to get an idea of the quality of the mag. We can only offer exposure right now but soon we will be launching our own web community. Future issue themes include: serial killers, sex & death, mutations/mutilations. If you have anything you want to submit: dangrn77@hotmail.com. Or at least read issue one and enjoy!

Continuing off from Danny1210's comparison of the Soul Collector to the Grim Reaper, the character in this poem seems somewhat human with that last phrase, "with a silent weep".

Thank you for your comment! You're absolutely right, I've written that phrase to conclude the poem and leave a sense of mixed feelings, a cloud of empathy.

Sounds like the grim reaper to me, but a more empathetic one. Nice!

Thank you so much for your comment. Exactly, death doesn't have to be grim-looking and holding a deadly weapon. What I tried to transmit with this was a different perspective of the 'sleep' and mix a sad situation with a little bit of empathy, of kindness. :aww:
